Facts About the Spix Macaw
INTRODUCTION
The Spix (Blue) Macaw is one of the world’s rarest birds. Being critically endangered, Macaws were believed to have gone into extinction in the wild because they had not been seen in the woodlands and creeks of northeast Brazil since 2000. This is because of the deforestation in Central and South America, and illegal trapping. These birds are being saved by several captive breeding programs.
