Facts About the Paradise Tanager
INTRODUCTION
The Paradise Tanager is a beautiful and brightly-colored bird from the lowlands in the Amazon. They like to live in the highest parts of the tree canopy and sing. Males and females are hard to tell apart since they both have the same colors to help them blend into the forest.
The Native tribes call this bird the yeri yeri because of the sound of their calls. Their name Paradise Tanager comes from their beautiful colors and “tangara” which is a Tupí word which means dancer, or “one who turns and skips.” These birds are known to use their flashy colors and movements to attract their mates, which is why they are known for their amazing dance moves.
