Facts About the Hoopoe
INTRODUCTION
The Hoopoe is a unique, exotic-looking bird. This bird can be found in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Madagascar. It is the national bird of Israel and is a sacred animal according to ancient Egyptian stories.
There are four species of Hoopoe bird, but one is extinct. Many scientists categorize all Hoopoe birds into the same species; Upupa Epops. Other scientists separate them into Eurasian, African and Madagascar Hoopoes.
Hoopoe is named after the sound the bird makes: hoo-poo.
