Facts About the Chilean Skua

Facts About the Chilean Skua

INTRODUCTION

Chilean Skuas are large predatory seabirds, sometimes known as the Cinnamon Skua, due to the dark red color on their throat and lower face and dark color cap. The skua is a stocky bird with white patches on its wings, usually only seen when the bird is in flight. Chilean Skuas breed in Chile and Argentina but often journey as far north as Brazil and Peru when not in the breeding season. In the summer, these birds can often be seen flying over the steppes in Patagonia or socializing with gulls on beaches, dumps, lakes, and the mouths of rivers, where they often chase other birds to steal their food.
