Facts About the Cheetah

Facts About the Cheetah

INTRODUCTION

The Cheetah is a large animal that was once all over Africa and Asia and even in parts of Europe. Today, it is found in only a few remote regions of its once natural range, primarily due to growing human populations in these regions and the hunting of them for their fur.

There are reportedly five different subspecies of cheetah that differ only very slightly in color and are easily distinguished by where they live in the world. They are not considered to be part of the “big cat” family because they cannot roar.

They are one of Africa’s most powerful predators and are most known for how fast they can run when chasing prey. Capable of reaching speeds of more than 60 miles per hour, for short periods of time, the cheetah is considered to be the fastest land mammal in the world!
