INTRODUCTION
The Catahoula Leopard Dog is also known as Catahoula Cur. It’s an American dog breed that was named after the Catahoula Parish in Louisiana. Louisiana was originally inhabited by Native American Indians who were known for hunting and livestock keeping, so they trained this dog for hunting.
The dogs in the herding group including the Catahoula Leopard Dog, were trained to carry out a variety of tasks relating to the hunting as well as the herding of domesticated animals. The variety of livestock that the dogs herded comprised of mostly sheep, cattle, reindeer, and other animals.
